The Rabbit maps to the branch Mao. At the Mao hour (5–7 a.m.) the sun lifts and wild rabbits leave their burrows to graze; the Mao month is mid-spring, peak blossom season. The glyph itself pictures two door-leaves swinging open — spring's gate opens here.
