The archetype of Metal is autumn's cull and the drawn blade: it prunes summer's abundance down to the fruit, and forges ore into instruments. The classics call Metal "yielding and reforming" — it can be melted and reshaped, but once forged it holds a hard edge. Everything about rules, cutting, refining and decisive judgment belongs to Metal: law, military and police, surgery, precision craft, audit.

Yang Metal (Geng) is the axe and raw iron — blunt force that breaks deadlocks. Yin Metal (Xin) is the jewel and the scalpel — exquisite, precise, winning on quality of edge. One is the battlefield sword, the other the surgeon's knife.

Strong-Metal people run on principle and clear ledgers of right and wrong — Metal governs righteousness. They speak straight, act clean, and excel at cutting through chaos. Highly self-disciplined, they hold themselves and everyone else to exacting standards.

Their strengths are decisiveness and precision; their weakness is coldness — an overdeveloped sense of correctness that can leave cuts on relationships. Excessive Metal turns harsh and combative, breaking before bending. Weak Metal is indecisive and conflict-averse, unable to say no when it must — it needs Earth's nourishment (deep expertise) and deliberate boundary training.

Metal maps to industries of rules and edges: justice and law enforcement, military and security, finance and securities, machinery and hardware, precision manufacturing, surgery, quality control and audit — plus any management seat that demands cold-blooded calls.

Strong-Metal people belong as referees and operators: setting standards, gatekeeping quality, making the final cut at critical moments. Consigning them to endless soft-consensus coordination dulls the blade. A Metal type's career moat is sharpness of craft — one skill honed past the point of replaceability.

In relationships the Metal type is the guardian blade: few words, heavy promises, fiercely loyal once committed — protecting you with actions rather than honeyed speech. But their criticism lands like a scalpel: precise, and it hurts.

In element dynamics, Earth generates Metal: an Earth partner's solidity gives Metal's sharpness a safe sheath. Metal generates Water: Metal gladly clears the way for a Water partner's wisdom. Fire controls Metal: a Fire partner's heat can forge Metal — the healthy version is smithing, where Fire makes Metal into an instrument; the unhealthy version is scorching and clashing steel.

Excessive Metal: harshness, combativeness, scoring every exchange as win-or-lose; health-wise, watch the respiratory system — Metal rules the lungs. Remedy logic: vent through Water (turn edge into insight and articulation) and temper with Fire (accept forging — learn when to sheathe the blade).

Deficient Metal: weak decisiveness, porous boundaries, hostage to social obligation. Strengthen with Earth (build undeniable expertise and track record) and drill small decisions — lead with conclusions, call time on time. Strength is judged by the month branch and whole chart; no quantity of white clothing will refine your Metal.
