The Dog maps to the branch Xu. At the Xu hour (7–9 p.m.) night closes in, doors are barred, and the dog takes up its post; the Xu month is deep autumn, leaves down and fire withdrawing — the whole summer's heat sealed into Xu, the Fire vault.

Xu is dry Earth hiding Wu, Xin and Ding: thick soil as the body, with sharpened metal and a stove-flame stored inside. Mild and solid by day, fangs and firelight when it matters — "quiet all year, fearless the moment its people are threatened" is written plainly in the hidden-stem structure.

The texts' keywords for Dog natives: loyalty, duty, a bright line between right and wrong. Trust once granted is not easily revoked — this is the teammate you hand your back to; the justice reflex is strong, and unfairness witnessed is unfairness protested.

The shadow is vigilance-fatigue and rigidity: the alarm system never fully powers down, worry compounds, and the same black-and-white clarity leaves no grayscale, which can read as stiffness. The Dog's assignment: turn the guardian radar down two notches and keep some bandwidth for its own life.

The Dog's trine allies are the Tiger and Horse (Yin-Wu-Xu, the Fire frame): the Dog keeps the frame's vault, holding the rear for two chargers — a triangle complete on offense and defense. Its pair is the Rabbit (Mao-Xu): sensitivity matched with loyalty, folk-certified for stability across centuries.

Its clash is the Dragon (Chen-Xu): two great earth vaults, two belief systems, head-on — the archetypal clash of convictions. The Chou-Xu-Wei triple punishment warrants attention as well. Beyond pairings, Xu is dry earth leaning toward fire — the chart's water-earth ratio decides where all that loyalty burns.

Xu years (2030, 2042…) are the Dog's Ben Ming Nian; Chen (Dragon) years clash Tai Sui — the Chen-Xu clash shakes foundations: property, position and org-chart changes cluster in such years.

Yin and Wu years ignite the Fire frame: drive and visibility climb sharply — a tailwind if the chart welcomes Fire, a dryness warning if it does not. Whether yours is a vault guarding wealth or a fire scorching its keeper, a cast chart answers precisely.

Being a Dog fixes only the year branch, Xu. Technically Xu is the Fire storage vault, Xin Metal's residual qi, and one half of the fabled "heaven's net" (Xu) and "earth's snare" (Chen) — rich in occult flavor, but every real application lives in full-chart structure.

The Dog's story is about loyalty; the chart is about that loyalty's costs and returns. Whom does your Xu guard, and against what? Cast the chart, and the post assignment becomes obvious.
