Judgment

丰:亨,王假之,勿忧,宜日中。

Plain MeaningAbundance: success—the king attains it; do not grieve, be like the sun at midday.

雷电皆至,丰;君子以折狱致刑。

  • 初九遇其配主,虽旬无咎,往有尚。

    Meeting a matched lord—no blame within the span; going wins esteem.

  • 六二丰其蔀,日中见斗,往得疑疾,有孚发若,吉。

    The curtain so thick the Dipper shows at noon—advance breeds suspicion; sincerity that awakens brings fortune.

  • 九三丰其沛,日中见沫,折其右肱,无咎。

    The banner so dense small stars appear at noon; the right arm broken—yet no blame.

  • 九四丰其蔀,日中见斗,遇其夷主,吉。

    Darkness at noon, yet meeting a lord of like virtue—fortune.

  • 六五来章,有庆誉,吉。

    Bringing in the brilliant—blessing and fame; fortune.

  • 上六丰其屋,蔀其家,窥其户,阒其无人,三岁不觌,凶。

    A grand roof shading an empty house, unseen for three years—misfortune of isolating abundance.

Symbolism

Thunder and lightning together: greatness at its peak, and the shadow it casts.

Life Lesson

At the zenith, shine outward and gather talent; beware self-eclipse and decline.

In your prime, stay open and generous; don’t wall yourself in.

Words of Caution

Abundance hoarded in isolation empties the house.
